Mngqithi slams Kaizer Chiefs for failing local coaches

Posted on December 18, 2025

Golden Arrows head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has slammed Kaizer Chiefs for not giving local coaches enough time.

In the past 10 years, Amakhosi have had six local coaches but all of them failed to serve more than a year, except Steve Komphela.

Mngqithi felt Komphela and Arthur Zwane, in particular, were doing a great job at Kaizer Chiefs but were unfairly dismissed.

“What I did for Zwane was because I saw the work he did by taking Chiefs to the tough competition,  CAF Champions League,” said Mngqithi to Isolezwe.

“The same thing happened to Steve [Komphela], they showed him the way out, even though he put the team close to the top, season after season. If the Chiefs’ management were patient with Komphela and Zwane, the team would have been back at the top of South African football,” he added.

Mngqithi says Chiefs were better under Komphela and Zwane

The Arrows coach has applauded both Zwane and Komphela for the progress they have made since leaving Chiefs.

“Under their leadership, respectively, Chiefs were playing quality football, and both of them were never given the quality of players that was given to other Chiefs coaches,” Mngqithi added.

“The good thing is that both coaches have moved on with their lives, and what’s better is that they are doing wonders where they are,” he said.

Before his move to Arrows last year, Mngqithi was linked to Kaizer Chiefs but the Soweto giants opted to go for Nasreddine Nabi. Despite winning the Nedbank Cup, Nabi was shown the door in October, leaving his assistants to take over for the rest of the season.

Do you think Chiefs should have kept Zwane?
