Mngqithi – I Want to Change Carling Silver Medal to Gold

Posted on October 30, 2025

Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi has expressed his strong ambition about the Carling Knockout Cup after reaching the semi-finals.

Abafana Bes’thende secured their place in the last four after defeating TS Galaxy 2-1 in the quarterfinal on Saturday at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

Their last semifinal appearance in a cup competition was the 2021/22 MTN8, where they ultimately lost 4-1 on aggregate to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mngqithi, who was spearheading Sundowns during their Carling Knockout final defeat against Magesi last season, said he is determined to swap that silver medal for gold this time around.

“I don’t want to go to that [winning the trophy] because I was humbled by Magesi in the final last season,” said Mngqithi.

“The season before, we lost against TS Galaxy in the first round of the competition. Then I took the team to the final of the competition and got humbled by Magesi in a game we dominated from start to finish, unfortunately, we didn’t win it.

“It was my first final as a coach that I didn’t win. That for me says, every game is as important.

“But I’ve got that Carling Black Label silver medal in my bag there. I’d want to change it because it was very unfortunate that we didn’t win that match.

“I normally don’t keep the silver medals. But because I have never won the Carling, I’ve won every other trophy in the country, so I said I want to change this and make it gold.”
