Miguel Cardodo argues with Komphela after Arrows defeat

Posted on September 25, 2025

The pressure is mounting on Mamelodi Sundowns’ head coach Miguel Cardoso after another poor result.

The 53-year-old Portuguese coach was seen fuming following his team’s first defeat of the season in the Betway Premiership. Cardoso has been under pressure since he failed to deliver at the FIFA Club World Cup, and his poor start to the season has already put pressure on him.

After the match against Arrows, he was seen arguing with his assistant Steve Komphela before he left the touchline fuming.

Downs fans want Miguel Cardoso out

While many fans want Cardoso to leave, some Sundowns supporters believe the former Esperance boss has improved the club.

“Manqoba Mnqithi, who was fired by Mamelodi Sundowns for Miguel Cardoso is the first coach this season to send the same Cardoso running to the dressing room after beating him up. Full-time: Golden Arrows 1-0 Mamelodi Sundowns,” @tchato18 tweeted.

“Ever since Miguel Cardoso joined Sundowns, the team has struggled defending against corners, but ironically enough, they’ve actually gotten better at scoring from them. Back when Cardoso was with Espérance, he was really skilled at all kinds of defensive strategies,” @TumiTau tweeted.

“Cardoso fooled y’all with that CAF fluke. Man drew his way to the CAF final and lived off the wave of Sundowns previous black South African coaches in the league. Cracks started to show by the end of last season. They are cooked for the rest of this season,” @sleezy_season.

“Manqoba Mngqithi was fired at Mamelodi Sundowns FC in almost the same circumstances that Miguel Cardoso is on right now…What’s special about him if he doesn’t go after today?” @Madumetja__M08 tweeted.

Mamelodi Sundowns are in action on Saturday against Richards Bay at home. A win will put them top of the log, but it remains to be seen if Cardoso will still be coaching by then.

Will Cardoso survive the chop?
