Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze has confirmed Aden McCarthy is in a race against time to be fit for the Betway Premiership showdown against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 19-year-old defender has not trained since the win over Richards Bay, and the medical team is pushing hard to get him back on the field. His availability will be decided on the eve of the game.

Kaizer Chiefs fans have also been updated on Etiosa Ighodaro, Bradley Cross and Nkanyiso Shinga.

KAIZER CHIEFS INJURY NEWS

Aden McCarthy, Bradley Cross and Nkanyiso Shinga

New left-back Nkanyiso Shinga, together with defender Bradley Cross, have both been sidelined by illness this week. Their recovery timelines remain short, but Amakhosi will be monitoring their progress closely ahead of the blockbuster meeting with Masandawana.

“About Aden, he hasn’t been training since that day [Richards Bay],” Kaze said.

“The medical staff are working hard to get him back on the field, but we’ll have to wait and see how he does tomorrow to decide whether he will be part of the game or not,” Kaze added.

The Kaizer Chiefs assistant continued: “We have Shinga and Cross who have been sick in the last few days. Ighodaro was also injured at training two days ago.

“But apart from that, everyone is well and ready for the game.”

Etiosa Ighodaro

New striker Etiosa Ighodaro, who recently joined from Sundowns, picked up a knock at training just days before facing his former club.

Kaizer Chiefs are hopeful the injury is not serious, but Kaze admitted it has slightly disrupted preparations for the clash.
