McCarthy dropped, Tinkler next Amakhosi coach?

Posted on September 24, 2025

Today’s Kaizer Chiefs news wrap features some big names. There’s also a fitness update on 23-year-old defender Rushwin Dortley.

Dortley has been sidelined since March after knee surgery.

Meanwhile, Junior Khanye wants Aden McCarthy dropped.

Khanye wants Kaizer Chiefs to drop McCarthy

According to former Amakhosi winger Junior Khanye, Chiefs need to reconsider their central defensive pairing of Aden McCarthy and Inacio Miguel.

“Very disappointed by this boy McCarthy. His positioning,” Khanye said as quoted by iDiski Times.

“He got the ball. He’s more focused on playing than on his priority, which is defending.

Kaizer Chiefs star Dortley sees light at the end of the tunnel

The technical team will need to be cautious when they reintroduce 23-year-old Rushwin Dortley to the fold after such a lengthy layoff, but it’s undoubtedly a huge plus to see him on the comeback trail.

“Rushwin Dortley is running around a pitch, which is nearly empty – well, except for physiotherapist Phumzile Ngobese, who is monitoring the defender’s run closely,” Amakhosi announced on 15 July.

Is Eric Tinkler a candidate for the Kaizer Chiefs job?

Kaizer Chiefs have parted ways with Tunisian tactician Nasreddine Nabi after revelations about his coaching qualifications. Chiefs fans around South Africa have mentioned Eric Tinkler as a prime candidate.

Now at the helm of an impressive and improving Sekhukune side, former Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler is seemingly the first choice of several Chiefs fans across Mzansi.

The 55-year-old enjoyed a stellar playing career, winning AFCON in 1996 and collecting 55 caps for Bafana.

At club level, he enjoyed stints in Italy, Portugal and England.

His head-coaching career spans 10 years after starting out with Orlando Pirates in 2015.

He’s also collected silverware as a boss with SuperSport and City.

In 17 matches managing Babina Noko, he’s picked up a stellar average of 2.06 points per game.
