Algerian giants MC Alger have made an approach to FC Toronto over South African forward Cassius Mailula where he could reunite with Rulani Mokwena.
Mokwena was instrumental in the rise of Mailula from the DStv Diski Challenge into the senior side at Mamelodi Sundowns and his breakout season saw him score 15 goals, with four assists in 31 games across all competitions.
It led to a place in the senior national team and eventually a lucrative move to Major League Soccer (MLS) side Toronto – where things didn’t quite go to plan as the club struggled in the league and had a couple of coaching changes.
Mailula never managed to establish himself in the first eleven and was lured to Morocco by Wydad Athletic Club when Mokwena took charge for the 2024/25 season.
He netted six goals and registered seven assists in 36 games and was part of the squad that featured at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup – where he scored of the club’s two goals – before his loan ended.
Now, sources have confirmed MCA have made an approach to Toronto for a season-long loan for the 24-year-old forward as they look to bolster their squad for the upcoming season that kicks off in two weeks’ time.
