Today’s Orlando Pirates news wrap looks at yet another accolade for Mbekezeli Mbokazi and a final transfer wrap before the window closes.

19-year-old stand-in skipper Mbokazi is the August player of the month.

Meanwhile, it’s been a period of big change on the transfer front.

Mbokazi earns August award for Orlando Pirates

19-year-old central defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi is enjoying life at the top level. Captaining Orlando Pirates in the absence of Nkosinathi Sibisi in the last six games across all competitions, Mbokazi has earned another big gong.

“Mbokazi… let me be very honest, and I have to be careful because when you congratulate someone to quickly, I’m afraid he stops working but I have to say it, because as a coach you have to be cautious of hyping players, but when they are doing well, it’s good for their mentality, for their self-esteem that he did well,” coach Abdeslam Ouaddou said.

Of the 15 exits from Pirates, four attackers stand out. Mohau Nkota left for Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ettifaq. 27-year-old mercurial winger Monnapule Saleng is back at his old club Orbit College for a season-long loan. Meanwhile, industrious striker Zakhele Lepasa and winger Katlego Otladisa have been released.
