Mayo – What Mmodi Told Me After Offside Blunder

Posted on October 21, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs forward Khanyisa Mayo says himself and Pule Mmodi buried the hatchet over the offside goal incident immediately.

Mmodi was on course to net his first of the season against AmaZulu with Chiefs fully in control and on course to go 2-0 ahead but Mayo got a touch onto the ball before it crossed the goal line and was called back as an off-side.

It clearly infuriated Mmodi who questioned by Mayo touched the ball and denied the goal, and Usuthu eventually equalised and Amakhosi dropped two crucial points in the league.

“During the game at half-time, we spoke about it, I apologised, he said to me; these things happen – it’s football, it was a lapse of concentration, I wasn’t aware of my surroundings and it happened, we moved on,” Mayo said.

“We spoke about it even after the game, I gave him a call and we spoke about it – and he said no don’t worry, these things happen, it’s done, let’s focus on what is next…”

Mmodi went on to reiterated the sentiments on Mayo on the incident; “As he said, this is football it’s been a long time I know Mayo, he’s a striker – who likes to score goals.

“I never took it personally to ask why would you do that? But everyone makes mistakes, nobody is perfect, life goes on, because the next day I will need him.”

Chiefs are now preparing to return to league action, as they take on Siwelele on Wednesday evening at FNB Stadium.
