South African forward Khanyisa Mayo is poised to leave CR Belouizdad after being informed he’s not part of the plans for the club this season.
Mayo was not registered for the upcoming campaign and confirmation has come from the club that he was not training with the first team squad, as a move away in this current window was mooted.
“It was my decision, and it was not an easy one,” head coach Sead Ramovic exclusively told iDiski Times.
“Mayo is a true professional, and I have the utmost respect for him. But in football, it’s about timing, the right role for the player, and the overall strategy of the team.
“At this stage, I believe a new challenge would be the best opportunity for him to continue playing at the highest level.
“I truly wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.”
For the 27-year-old it’s now a fresh chapter awaiting after just one season in the Algerian Ligue 1 after luring him from Cape Town City in a record transfer of over $800,000.
Mayo featured in 41 games last season with six goals and one assist in all competitions and in the current window the club has since secured Farid El Mela (Angers), Mohamed Ali Ben Hamouda (El Mahalla) Abdenor Belhocini (CS Constantine) and Redhon Xhixha (Qarabag) for their new look attack.
Mayo still has two years remaining on his current deal and will likely terminate his contract, should a transfer or loan not materialise before the end of the window.
