Maseko Shares Emotions After ‘First Start in 662 Days’

Posted on February 17, 2026

Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Thapelo Maseko has given an emotional reaction after making his first start in a league match this past weekend for AEL Limassol, 662 days since his previous start.

Maseko made a loan move to Cyprus during the January transfer window, leaving the Tshwane giants, whom he had been with since the beginning of the 2023/24 season.

At Sundowns, he did not get as much playing time as he would have hoped, making 45 appearances, scoring three goals, and providing one assist over the two and a half seasons he spent at the club that’s competing in multiple competitions.

Since his move to Limassol, he has made four appearances and scored one goal — a winning strike in the Cypriot Cup — to help his side reach the semi-finals.

This past weekend, he earned his first start in a league match against Pafos FC, playing 81 minutes in a 1–0 defeat for his side.

The following day, he took to Instagram to express his emotions after earning his first start in a long time.

“662 days without a start,” he wrote on Instagram.

“I learned patience.. I learned humility.. I learned who I am..

“Last [night] meant more than words can explain.”
