Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has tipped Marumo Gallants to upset Orlando Pirates in the Carling Knockout Cup final.
The two teams face each other on Saturday evening at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. Coming into the match, the Buccaneers are favourites having already claimed the MTN8 in September.
Khanye feels Marumo Gallants have nothing to lose and could surprise Pirates.
“It’s not an obvious game, even though Orlando Pirates are used to winning,” he said on iDiski TV.
“The more you win, the more your opponents double-up their efforts.
“It’s not going to be easy. I’m sure Pirates want another trophy after crashing out of the CAF Champions League, so there are expectations,” he said.
Khanye feels Pirates are under pressure
Although the Buccaneers have shown great form, Khanye feels the pressure might get to them with the Africa Cup of Nations a few weeks away.
“Psychologically, there’s pressure on Pirates, and their opponents are underdogs and will want to prove themselves,” he added.
“If they eliminated Mamelodi Sundowns, then they will believe that they can beat Pirates.”
The former Chiefs star predicts Pirates to lose Saturday’s final.
“I give it to Marumo, they are going to surprise us. They are playing againt a top team but I think Pirates will create many chances, truly speaking but Gallants will make it difficult for them,” Khanye said.
“The match will end in a draw after 90 minutes but Marumo Gallants will take it either on extra-time or penalties. Pirates will attack, Appollis might score and get subbed, but the game will not end there, Marumo will score.”
