Manqoba – We Should’ve Had Three Penalties

Posted on December 13, 2025

Carling All-Stars head coach Manqoba Mngqithi felt hard done after claiming his team should’ve been awarded at least three penalties but says he would humbly extend his apology if he’s in the wrong.

Mngqithi’s charges became the first All-Stars team to fail in defending their Black Label crown after going down 2-0 to Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Late goals from Sifiso Luthuli and Boitumelo Radiopane earned the Buccaneers their third trophy of this season already.

Mngqithi bemoaned being denied three penalties which he says was because of the threat they posed at Pirates.

“I think it was just unfortunate because, in my opinion, on any other day, we could’ve won the game,” Mngqithi said in post-match interview on SuperSport TV.

“We had three, in my opinion, penalty shouts.

“Our passing game was quite good, and our field occupation was quite good, and we had a lot of verticality and movements that threatened the box and that’s where I thought we created the penalties that I’m talking about.

“From where I was sitting, I’m honestly sure that it was penalties. And If I’m wrong, I will be happy to apologise.”
