Mamelodi Sundowns held in DR Congo

Posted on February 8, 2026

Mamelodi Sundowns shared the spoils with FC Saint-Eloi Lupopo after a 1-1 draw in their Matchday 5 CAF Champions League Group C encounter, a result that keeps the group wide open going into the final round.

The hosts struck first in the 19th minute when Henoc Molia Lihozasia found the net to give Lupopo the lead.

Sundowns controlled large spells of possession but struggled to turn that dominance into clear chances during the opening half, allowing the Congolese side to defend their advantage going into the break.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS FIND EQUALISER THROUGH JAYDEN ADAMS

Sundowns emerged with greater urgency in the second half and were rewarded in the 55th minute. Jayden Adams arrived at the right moment to finish and bring Kabo Yellow back on level terms.

Despite enjoying more of the ball after the equaliser, Sundowns were unable to force a decisive breakthrough. Lupopo remained organised and disciplined, limiting space in the final third and seeing out the remainder of the contest.

The draw leaves Sundowns in third place in Group C on six points, while Lupopo sit fourth with five points. At the top, Al-Hilal lead the standings with eight points, followed closely by MC Alger on seven.

All eyes now turn to the final group match, where Sundowns host MC Alger on Saturday, 14 February. The fixture carries added intrigue, with Rulani Mokwena set to make his first return to Tshwane since his shock departure in July 2024, in what promises to be a decisive night for Group C.
