Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Fortune Makaringe has opened up about the showboating incident that angered Pitso Mosimane.
It happened during the 2019/20 season when Ezimnyama Ngenkani edged Pitso Mosimane’s Sundowns 1-0 at Orlando Stadium.
In the second half, Makaringe pulled off a showboating move near the Brazilians’ bench, much to Mosimane’s displeasure as his team chased an equaliser.
Makaringe has explained that Sundowns were applying heavy pressure on them, and he believed the moment of flair could shift momentum and dent their confidence.
“If my memory serves me well, Pirates hadn’t won against Mamelodi Sundowns in Orlando for quite some time,” said Makaringe on Mike Morton Talks Football.
“So, you’re coming, you’re playing this game and at the back of your mind, ‘Okay, we’ve never beaten this team at Orlando, tonight they are here’.
“It was all black, fans were there. After quite some time, Orlando was packed on Wednesday night.
“I had actually contributed in the goal, and as we’re leading, Sundowns are coming wave after wave. I thought the only way for us to get the momentum back is if I step on the ball.
“I did that to show we’re at home and that we’re definitely walking out with a victory tonight.”
