Khumalo Predicts Chiefs’ Next Big Star

Posted on October 12, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs reserve side head coach Vela Khumalo has predicted striker Shaun Els as the club’s next big star.

Els made his second appearance in the Chiefs reserve side when they played a 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United on Sunday.

Els was most recently with the Amakhosi Under 19 side campaigning in the Gauteng Development League and netted his first DDC goal against Babina Noko on Sunday.

He started ahead of prolific goalscorer Neo Bohloko but Khumalo explained why they made that decision and also made a bold statement by stating that Els is the next big star especially that the country is lacking when it comes to strikers.

“I think Neo [Bohloko] more clever. He has played the game, he has been in the game, but he’s still to see Shaun,” Khumalo said.

“He’s very clinical. It was his second game now, with time he will get better, he’s going to be the best thing ever. We’re looking for strikers and he’s a finisher. He’s a striker. He’s got the instincts of being a good striker.

“But Neo is a little bit clever. He has been in the game for some time now, maturity he is in there. And not really much of a difference, but technically gifted both of them.”
