Khanye reveals Sipho Chaine’s biggest weakness at Pirates

Posted on October 31, 2025

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has pointed out a weakness in Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine.

Despite winning the goalkeeper of the season award last campaign, the 28-year-old has faced criticism from some Bucs fans, who feel that his relaxed demeanour is a concern, especially since his position at the club is currently unchallenged.

Speaking on iDiski TV, Khanye noted that Chaine has conceded some avoidable goals while at Pirates.

He emphasised that the goalkeeper needs to be more decisive during set pieces to make his job easier. “They deserved to win the match, but they shouldn’t have conceded a goal. I’m not sure how they conceded, but it may have been due to a lapse in concentration,” Khanye said.

Pirates keeper Sipho Chaine under fire

“Chaine needs to learn; I believe he’s been struggling with crosses because I have been watching him closely. When it comes to crosses, he needs to make a decision. If he comes out of his box, he needs to win the ball; sometimes he just needs to punch the ball to safety.”

“Even the goal they scored was his fault; he should have come out and punched the ball,” Khanye added.

Sipho Chaine joined Pirates in 2022 from Chippa United and had to wait for a year to become the club’s first-choice keeper. He has won six trophies with the Sea Robbers so far and his good form has seen him become the second-choice keeper for Bafana Bafana.

Do you think Sipho Chaine has been vulnerable to mistakes lately?
