iDiski TV analyst Junior Khanye has given his analysis of Bafana Bafana midfielder Sipho Mbule’s performance in the team’s AFCON opener.
Mbule started the Group B opener in Morocco that Bafana won 2-1 on Monday to go joint top with Egypt on three points. Mbule lasted 80 minutes in a game that Khanye felt the industrious midfielder wasn’t combining well with in the middle of the park.
Khanye admitted he had expectations from the Orlando Pirates man but was also disappointed with how the ‘Master Chef’ gave away possession in this own half and how he positioned himself.
“We had expectations on certain players especially Sipho Mbule, Mohau Nkota and Oswin Appollis,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“I know Appollis scored but when you check his overall performance I don’t think he did much. It was difficult to see Mbule in this game because there was no link. Certain positions in the game I think exposed the coach, number one I don’t think there’s a combination between [Mbkezeli] Mbokazi and [Siyabonga] Ngezana. I don’t think there is a combination between [Sphephelo Sithole] Yaya and [Teboho] Mokoena and also Sipho Mbule and Lyle Foster I think there’s questions there.
“If there are no links there is no way we can dominate a game there is no way you can say I will win the game. Sipho Mbule played in moments especially first half, I didn’t see him. He lost so much possession especially in Bafana Bafana’s half. He didn’t look like himself, always receiving the ball while facing our goal I don’t understand why.”
