Khanye compares Chiefs with Pirates and Sundowns

Posted on November 10, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs may be looking more formidable this season, but Junior Khanye is not exactly sold yet.

The popular YouTube pundit believes Amakhosi are on a better path compared to last season, yet he still sees major gaps when comparing them with Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

JUNIOR KHANYE RATES KAIZER CHIEFS

“Comparing to last season, Kaizer Chiefs were not in the same position they are in now,” Khanye explained via Soccer Laduma. “So, taking that into consideration, there are changes and improvement by the team. There are players they have signed who have contributed to this improvement we’re seeing.”

Khanye’s praise, however, is not without caution. He has warned that the real test lies beyond South Africa’s borders when Kaizer Chiefs step into the CAF Confederation Cup. “In the CAF Confederation Cup, I think Chiefs might struggle because they will be tested against African giants like Zamalek and ZESCO United,” he said.

Khanye added that in the Betway Premiership, Amakhosi would have little trouble against newer sides like Orbit College, but he expects them to struggle when facing stronger, more experienced opponents.

Khanye didn’t mince his words when it came to Kaizer Chiefs’ long-term ambitions. While he acknowledged the club’s progress under the current setup, he feels their foundation still lacks the strength needed to challenge the country’s top sides. For the former winger, structure, not just talent, will decide whether Amakhosi can truly compete with the giants of South African football.

“I still believe that Kaizer Chiefs need to create a proper structure in order to be able to compete with the likes of Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns for results. In terms of the league title chase, I don’t think they will finish in the top three because Pirates and Sundowns are competing for honours, and there are other teams that are doing well,” he added.
