Kaizer Chiefs co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze must win the majority of the club’s remaining 12 matches to secure their positions.
The pair took over on an interim basis after the dismissal of head coach Nasreddine Nabi last October. After being eliminated from the league, CAF Confederation Cup, and Nedbank Cup, the club’s goal, as stated by the Sporting Director, is to finish in the top three.
However, Kaizer Chiefs legend Jabu Mahlangu believes that the expectations set for Khalil and Kaze are unfair.
“Firstly, it was good to hear the Sporting Director being ambitious; speaking the way he spoke about how the team still has high hopes. They still want to compete against the best in the African continent, he said on SABC Sport’s Soccer Zone.
“The mandate they gave the co-coaches, for me, that is where I have a concern. Is it realistic? Personally, I don’t think it’s realistic.
Khalil and Kaze might be on their way out
Mahlangu says the Chiefs should focus more on securing a top-eight finish than on competing for CAF spots, which require them to finish in the top three.
“I say this because I think for now, for this season, Chiefs should have just been fighting to finish in the top eight and then build from there.”
It remains to be seen if Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze will still be at the helm next season as Kaizer Chiefs look to bring in more players to compete for top honours.
