Kenya FA President Issues Apology After 8-0 Thrashing

Football Kenya Federation president Hussein Mohammed has issued a public apology to Kenyans and pledged urgent reforms after their humiliating 8-0 loss to Senegal

Harambee Stars suffered their fourth heaviest defeat in history after an 8-0 loss against Senegal with Benni McCarthy and his technical team left devastated after the loss after some great results in the CHAN tournament.

Kenya failed to qualify for both the AFCON and FIFA World Cup as McCarthy arrived at the Kenyan national side who were already out of running to qualify for both tournaments. They used the last World Cup qualifiers and recent friendlies to build their team ahead of the next AFCON qualifiers.

But it remains to been seen if the FKF will be patient enough to the let the South African mentor continue at the helm and push to qualify for the next AFCON. The last time Kenya qualified for AFCON was in 2019 and they have since missed four AFCONs and have never qualified for the FIFA World Cup.

McCarthy and his technical team seem to be getting backing from the football supporters and have asked the FA to start supporting football within the country and try to grow their own league as they don’t have any team in the CAF inter-club competitions group stages which is also a sign.

FKF president released a statement on his social media platforms of the apology, further making mention of efforts to improve Kenyan football structures.

“Truth be told, today is a bad day in office,” Mohammed said on social media.

“The results from today’s games are a wake-up call to us. To play and compete against the best in the world requires deliberate investment in a serious and professional technical team and player development programs.

“We have no excuses. I apologise for these results. We shall fix it. We will review our policies, operational procedures and key performance indicators of all staff starting from the grassroots and working our way to all National teams,” he added.
