Kekana Responds To Doc’s Praise Of Sundowns

Posted on February 13, 2026

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana has shown appreciation to the legendary Doctor Khumalo over his recent praise of the club.

Khuamlo made headlines this week when he stated South Africa, as a national team, cannot afford to lose Sundowns in the continental space this season and need them and their star players at their best for the sake of Bafana Bafana – who are 2026 FIFA World Cup bound.

In his talk, which was referenced at rivals potentially taking advantage of the instability of Masandawana this season, Khumalo also urged the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates to rise up to the best level and not rely on taking advantage of a ‘crippled’ Sundowns squad.

“Obviously appreciate the kind words from a legend like Doctor you know, but also we know that we need to work hard, we just need to bring the team back, and that’s what I’m going to emphasise,” Kekana said.

“Us as players, we need to bring the team back and that’s our focus [going into the upcoming games]. I think we’re in a good space and preparing well for Saturday’s game.

“It’s going to be a tough one, a must-win for us and that’s why we’re urging all supporters to please come out in numbers you know and pack Loftus, we need that 12th man on Saturday, it will be very difficult, but a challenge we’re looking up for.”

Sundowns are now taking their attentions to MC Alger, for a must-win fixture against their former head coach Rulani Mokwena at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.
