Kekana Makes Admission On New Sundowns Signings

Posted on October 23, 2025

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana admits the new signings have provided a boost to the squad after an indifferent start to the 2025/26 season.

With six wins, three draws and a defeat in their opening 10 games, Sundowns sit top of the table, but could drop to third, if Sekhukhune United and Orlando Pirates take advantage of their games in hand.

This has brought question marks around the squad, who have been dominant on the domestic league stage, chasing a ninth consecutive league title. Added to this, they suffered an early exit from the Carling Knockout by Marumo Gallants and missing out on the MTN8 again.

However, the club managed to secured Miguel Reisinho, Nuno Santos, Tsiki Ntsabeleng to add firepower to their attacking options, while Fawaaz Basadien was also signed earlier in the window that past, as one of the finest left-back options on the continent.

This has added new energy and competition at Chloorkop, which Kekana stated was welcomed as they now look to get back to their best form for the current season.
“As Sundowns we didn’t have the best start to the season; we set very high standards for ourselves, but I think with the players that have come in now – they have adjusted well to what is required for them, and us as Sundowns,” Kekana said.

“Going into the Remo game – I think they are good team, very aggressive, they man-marked us the whole game and made it quite difficult, but we went in there with the right attitude, right mentality and we played for one another. In the end our quality came out and that’s how we were able to get a positive result.”

Sundowns take on the NPFL champions holding a 5-1 advantage, for their 2nd leg CAF Champions League preliminary round tie on Sunday at Loftus Versfeld (15h00).
