Kaze names five injured players

Posted on February 4, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has provided an update on the club’s injury situation as Amakhosi continue their strong start to 2026.

The Soweto giants have won four consecutive matches across all competitions, but Kaze admits the season has not been smooth sailing due to a number of early injury setbacks.

“When we started the first phase of the league, we had so many injuries. Some of our important offensive players, like Lilepo, were injured,” Kaze said as per Soccer Beat.

“When you lose probably one of your best players, it becomes very tough.”

However, the Chiefs coach is confident the team will continue to improve as key players return to full fitness.

“I’m pretty sure that as the games go by, we will get better because now we have players coming back from injury,” he added. “George Matlou, Thabo Cele, Ox [Sibongiseni Mthethwa], [Bradley] Cross, all those players will come back strong.”

Kaze also explained that injuries have limited his ability to rotate the squad, particularly in attack.

“Sometimes you can’t even rotate your offensive players because you don’t have the numbers,” he said.
“Even [Etiosa] Ighodaro is injured, but we expect him to be available within the next two weeks.”

Chiefs return to action on Wednesday when they face Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup round of 16 as they begin the defence of their title.

Having lost just one league match this season, the Glamour Boys are brimming with confidence. Kaze expects to have a fully fit squad in the coming weeks as Kaizer Chiefs prepare for a highly anticipated clash against rivals Orlando Pirates later this month.
