Kaze Hails Chiefs Players, Discusses Scoring Issue

Posted on September 27, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze has praised the composure of his players to win the penalty shoot out and addressed their recent scoring issue.

Chiefs went to penalties after the 1-0 win at FNB Stadium took the tie to 1-1 on aggregate in the 1st round preliminary qualifier for the CAF Confederation Cup.

Glody Lilepo netted the goal but was also guilty of spurning a glorious chance a few moments prior, in a game where Amakhosi should have been comfortably ahead by half-time.

“We tried [after scoring the opener to get more] we have opportunities to score the second goal but unfortunately, we didn’t and had to go to penalties, and I have to give credit to the boys,” Kaze said.

“The calmness under huge pressure and now everyone is happy, we go into the second round, we’re happy for the club and the fans too.”

It’s been eight consecutive games where Chiefs have unable to score more than one goal in a single game, but Kaze feels the players who are still to be introduced to the team could remedy the issue.

The likes of Luke Baartman, Ethan Chislett, Asanele Velebayi, Etiosa Ighodaro have yet to make their official debuts while Khanyisa Mayo was signed after the qualifying registration period – but netted a goal on his league debut in their midweek draw against Marumo Gallants.

“I would say that situations are different, the previous games, the last pass, the last movement before the last pass wasn’t good,” he explained.

“But today the chances and the last passes were there. The only thing we need to do is keep working, The good things is that going into the next game we have more players, more options that will be available, which we hope will help as well.”
