Kappa On Chiefs Third Kit Question And Skyrocketing Sales

Posted on July 22, 2025

Ricky Joseph, Director & Head of Kappa South Africa has opened up on questions of a third kit for Kaizer Chiefs and revealed they’re on course for record-breaking sales in the 2025/26 season.

Chiefs and Kappa unveiled their new home and away kits on Monday morning at Naturena Village which has already been met with optimism and excitement on social media.

There’s been burning questions whether the club will opt for an alternate kit this campaign and an extra offering for the club this season going into continental football.

But Joseph stated it’s not necessary for the club due to it’s unique colourways, while there’s also already plenty on offer in terms of merchandise.

“We do discuss it, but we haven’t done it yet because there’s so much product for the fans to buy, adding a third jersey is just going to create more dilemma for the three options and what we do for the team,” he explained.

“The historic reasons for a third kit is for the potential clash of kit – so when you have, for example, that has red and white, home and away, it’s too very common colours, so you need a third option.

“With Chiefs, the gold and black clash with very few clubs, in fact, we have to be forced sometimes to wear our away jersey’s because the gold and black don’t really clash besides for maybe one club for the whole league… so it’s more about clashing reasons.

“So, we offer the two, and the players have three alterative short options, so every year they get a gold, black and this season the grey shorts – so there’s three combinations for the players – but for the fans, they have the home and way jersey.

“There’s also the warm-up jersey and the supporters’ apparel that we do so there’s a lot of variations for the fans.”

Joseph went on to state that they’ve exceeded the amount of pre-orders of their first two seasons, with this launch – and this mainly due to the club ending their trophy drought with the Nedbank Cup success.

“Unbelievably so I can tell you we’ve sold more jerseys this third season than both seasons, it’s an indication of excitement with the fans, winning the Nedbank Cup, has given the fans more belief and reason to buy,” he said.

“The sales after the Nedbank Cup trophy win was incredible, so the response of the fans… you know everyone wants to buy a winners jersey, so we had to place additional top up orders since the Nedbank Cup – as you know the jersey’s released today, we ordered long before the Nedbank Cup was one.

“So, this third season [together] is looking very optimistic in terms of the purchases from the retailers… we can never tell by the fans until it goes in store but already the reaction today has been very good.”
