Kaizer Chiefs transfer watch: PSL midfielder spotted at FNB
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

There was a surprise presence inside the Kaizer Chiefs camp at FNB Stadium on Saturday. Siwelele’s Grant Margeman was seen in the players’ suite during Amakhosi’s 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy.

Just a day earlier, Margeman had featured for Siwelele in their 1-1 draw with AmaZulu in Bloemfontein. With his current deal set to expire in June, his presence in the Amakhosi camp has immediately fueled previous reports of a pre-contract agreement with the Soweto giants.

GRANT MARGEMAN TO KAIZER CHIEFS?

Nothing has been confirmed from either side, but the sighting has added fresh intrigue to Amakhosi’s long-term midfield plans.

Kaizer Chiefs’ season has once again fallen short of expectations. As a result, the club is now turning its attention to strengthening key areas ahead of next season.

For any side aiming to compete for silverware, the midfield is where it all starts. The number six and number eight roles remain the heartbeat of a team. This season, Lebohang Maboe has shown flashes of quality in deeper areas, even though his natural game is more advanced.

Siphesihle Ndlovu was brought in as part of the rebuild. He is steadily starting to hit the levels he once showed at Maritzburg United, Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United.

But two midfielders in Maboe and Ndlovu are not enough for a club of this magnitude.

AMAKHOSI NEED ANOTHER MIDFIELD DYNAMO

As reported last week on this website, Margeman fits the mould for Amakhosi. He is an all-action midfielder built for the intensity of the Betway Premiership.

He is not a traditional number six or eight, but a hybrid who can do both roles with energy, aggression and intelligence.

Known as “Pacman” for his sharp movement and tireless engine, Margeman developed through the Ajax Cape Town system, where he quickly stood out as a teenager before earning a big move to Mamelodi Sundowns at just 22 in 2020.

The Bonteheuwel-born midfielder, shaped in the same Ikamva production line that has produced top South African talent, later moved to SuperSport United, now Siwelele, where he has become a key figure under coach Lehlohonolo Seema.

With over 150 Betway Premiership appearances at just 27, Margeman is already proven in this league His ability to break up play, drive forward and contribute in attack would suit Kaizer Chiefs perfectly, especially alongside Maboe or Ndlovu.

There is also added chemistry potential, with Margeman having previously played alongside Ndlovu at SuperSport United.

Crucially, he would not need time to adapt. He already knows the league, the tempo, and the demands, making him an immediate impact option as Chiefs look to rebuild a squad capable of challenging for titles again.
