Kaizer Chiefs to pounce on Mabasa, Mudau and Nwabali?

Kaizer Chiefs are yet to make a single signing in the current transfer window, but the Soweto giants could still surprise supporters with a few high-profile additions before the end of the month.

Amakhosi currently have seven players whose contracts are set to expire at the end of the campaign.

Among them are Sibongiseni “Ox” Mthethwa, Brandon Petersen and Pule Mmodi, who all have just five months remaining on their deals.

While it is widely expected that key figures such as Mthethwa and Petersen will be offered extensions, the same cannot be guaranteed for some of the other players facing uncertain futures at Naturena.

Chiefs have once again been linked with Nigerian international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali. The Chippa United shot-stopper has previously expressed his desire to join the Glamour Boys, reigniting speculation around a possible move.

Kaizer Chiefs could look for a new keeper

Last season, Chiefs opted to sign Rwandan international Fiacre Ntwari despite strong links to Nwabali. However, with Bruce Bvuma’s future at the club unclear, a potential departure could open the door for the Nigerian star to make the switch to Naturena finally.

Another name on Kaizer Chiefs’ radar is Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa. The prolific forward has found himself down the pecking order at the Buccaneers this season, but has still managed to score four goals in nine appearances despite limited opportunities.

With Andre de Jong already signed by Pirates, Mabasa’s long-term future at the club appears uncertain, and a move away from the Sea Robbers could be on the cards.

Could Mudau join Kaizer Chiefs?

Chiefs have also been linked with Mamelodi Sundowns right-back Khuliso Mudau. The Bafana Bafana international is nearing the end of his contract, which expires in June, and could become a free agent should he decide against renewing his deal.

Mudau would be a significant acquisition for Amakhosi, who have previously capitalised on opportunities to sign free agents from Sundowns.

Should the opportunity arise again, Kaizer Chiefs may look to act decisively as they aim to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.
