Kaizer Chiefs to battle two teams for Mabasa?

Posted on December 19, 2025

Former Cape Town City star Peter du Toit has revealed that three clubs, including Kaizer Chiefs, are interested in signing Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa.

The 29-year-old forward has seen his playing time decrease this season under new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou. However, despite limited opportunities, Mabasa has made an impact when on the field, scoring four goals in nine appearances across all competitions.

This week, reports surfaced suggesting that the prolific striker could be moving to rival teams next season.

According to Du Toit, Mabasa has not been offered a new contract by the Buccaneers and could sign a pre-contract with the Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs.

“There are three clubs interested in signing Mabasa on a free. The situation is different on all three. The club that is interested but least likely to sign him is Al Ahly,” he said on SoccerBeat.

“I do not have strong contacts in Al Ahly, I have got contacts but not to the level I can tell you they are interested but I know there has been some contact.

“I will keep following up on that. The two clubs that are interested are obvious; one is Kaizer Chiefs and I can tell you that they have been in contact with the agent despite the denials.”

Will Kaizer Chiefs sign Mabasa as a free agent?

The former SA footballer said Amakhosi could only sign Mabasa once they let go of atleast two strikers at the end of the season.

“Kaizer Chiefs will not sign him for this transfer window, they are full of strikers. They want to sign him, obviously there are some negotiations but they will sign him and he will replace two strikers. They will let two of their current strikers go,” Du Toit added.

Du Toit said Kaizer Chiefs are more likely to pounce on Mabasa. He added that Mamelodi Sundowns have been in talks with the striker’s agent, but no further details were available.
