Kaizer Chiefs starting 11 vs Zamalek

Posted on November 30, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebohang Maboe has earned his first start against Zamalek in the CAF Confederation Cup at the Peter Mokaba Stadium at 15:00.

Amakhosi are looking for their first points in Group C after losing 2-1 to Al Masry in Suez, Egypt last weekend.

Amakhosi still have four players out injured: Fiacre Ntwari, Rushwin Dortley, Glody Lilepo and Aden McCarthy.

Gaston Sirino has returned from suspension to replace Ashley Du Preez, while Maboe takes Thabo Cele’s place in central midfield.

Kaizer Chiefs: Brandon Petersen, Dillan Solomons, Inacio Miguel, Zitha Kwinika, Bradley Cross, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Lebohang Maboe, Gaston Sirino, Pule Mmodi, Mduduzi Shabalala, Etiosa Ighodaro.

Substitutes: Bvuma, Mako, Monyane, Msimango, Matlou, Ngcobo, Vilakazi, Velebayi, Da Silva.

Zamalek line up: Sobhi, El-Fotouh, Abdelmaguid, Gaber, El-Wensh, Ismail, Shehata, Banza, Alvina, Maher, Jaziri.

Substitutes: To be confirmed.

Zamalek, known as the White Knights, enjoyed the perfect start with a 1-0 win over Zambia’s Zesco United on match day one.

WHAT’S MORE?

Zamalek carry the heaviest pedigree in the group, having lifted the CAF Confederation Cup twice in recent history, first in 2018/19 and again in 2023/24.

Away from continental action, the two sides show similar domestic form. Kaizer Chiefs have collected 22 points from 11 Betway Premiership matches and sit just three points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with a game in hand. Zamalek, meanwhile, are also on 22 points after 12 league outings, trailing Egyptian leaders Ceramica Cleopatra by seven points, although the leaders have played one more match.

History between the clubs is limited but meaningful. Amakhosi and Zamalek clashed just once before, in the second round of the 1993 African Cup of Champions Clubs, now known as the CAF Champions League. That contest finished level at 2-2 on aggregate, with the Egyptian giants advancing on the away-goals rule.

The first leg in Johannesburg on 16 May 1993 saw Kaizer Chiefs claim a 2-1 win at the FNB Stadium, with Lucas Radebe converting from the spot and September adding the other, while Mansour scored for Zamalek. Two weeks later in Cairo, at the Osman Ahmed Osman Stadium, Mansour struck again to give Zamalek a 1-0 victory and send them through.
