Kaizer Chiefs star stung by second-season syndrome

Posted on October 10, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs have hit a few roadblocks recently despite an encouraging start to the new Betway Premiership campaign.

Wandile Duba is struggling to regain his form from 2024-2025.

The 20-year-old still has time on his side, but this campaign is a crucial one.

Duba needs to regain his Kaizer Chiefs form

Kaizer Chiefs striker Wandile Duba admits that the start of the 2025-2026 season hasn’t been his best work. However, the 21-year-old vows to keep working hard. He started the first four matches of the league but has only made one substitute appearance since and was absent for the 1-1 draw against Gallants, and an unused sub in the 1-1 draw with AmaZulu, and was left out altogether in Chiefs’ Telkom Knockout defeat to Stellenbosch. He hasn’t yet troubled the scorers this term. This isn’t an unusual phenomenon; seeing a player battle after their breakout season in what’s known as second-season syndrome.

Pitso, Duba and Baartman in the news

Today’s Kaizer Chiefs news wrap looks at rumours surrounding Pitso Mosimane and more on the ruling in favour of Luke Baartman and Asanele Velebayi.
