Kaizer Chiefs star reveals mother and father phone call

Posted on September 15, 2025

Betway Premiership big boys Kaizer Chiefs fans welcomed a huge boost last week as the club confirmed the loan signing of Khanyisa Mayo from Algerian giants CR Belouizdad.

For the Mthatha-born attacker, the transfer move is more than just a transfer; it is a personal dream come true.

Mayo, whose father Patrick Mayo donned the Amakhosi shirt in the mid-2000s, landing two league titles, described the moment leading up to his move as emotional and thrilling.

Mayo’s first call after the move was to his parents, sharing the joyous news. “The first person I called was my mother, who was sitting with my father, and they both jumped for joy and celebrated that I would be joining my father in continuing the legacy of the club,” the former SuperSport United, Richards Bay, and Cape Town City forward told Kaizer Chiefs media.

The left-footed left Algeria after a lone season that included six goals and one assist in 46 matches for CR Belouizad.

The former 2022/23 season Betway Premiership top goalscorer can play in four different positions: right wing, left wing, attacking midfielder and center forward.

Meanwhile, Mayo could make his debut on Tuesday night. The Glamour Boys will host Eric Tinkler’s Sekhukhune United in the Betway Premiership. Kick off is 19:30 at the FNB Stadium.
