Kaizer Chiefs star admits to his weakness

Posted on September 29, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs striker Wandile Duba started the season in the thick of things, featuring in all four of Amakhosi’s opening games.

But football moves fast. In the last four matches, Duba hasn’t even stepped onto the pitch.

Instead, the spotlight has shifted to fresh faces and returning firepower: Flavio da Silva, Khanyisa Mayo, and a newly fit Ashley Du Preez.

WANDILE DUBA EXPLAINS HIS ABSENCE FROM THE KAIZER CHIEFS TEAM

Duba, who ended last season with five goals and three assists, has had to watch new signings Mayo and Silva make an immediate impact with a combined three goals in four matches.

Speaking to the media at Naturena on Monday ahead of Wednesday night’s Betway Premiership clash against AmaZulu FC, the youngster said he understands why he was dropped. “I think I didn’t start my season very well, so that is why the coach ended up taking me out of the team,” Duba told journalists.

“I wasn’t giving him what he wanted.”

The striker pointed out that his work rate and tactical output were solid, but he simply didn’t provide the most important contribution: goals. “Every coach needs a striker that scores. Flavio and Mayo got into the team and they both scored, and I wasn’t doing that. With the tactics I think I was doing well, but it was just about hitting the net,” he added.

LEARNING FROM NEW EXPERIENCED STRIKERS IN THE TEAM

Despite the setback, Duba understands that the increased competition for places will only make him a better footballer.

While Mayo and Silva will continue to lead the attack, the Soweto-born youngster insists he will put in the work to improve and earn his way back into the Amakhosi team.
