Kaizer Chiefs have completed their eighth signing of the current transfer window and its a long-term target!

On Tuesday morning, Chiefs announced the signing of striker Etiosa Ighodaro from Mamelodi Sundowns as a free agent.

Chiefs confirm Ighodaro signing

“Kaizer Chiefs have acquired the services of another striker, Etiosa Ighodaro. The 24-year-old Nigerian arrived in South Africa in July 2021 and has played for several PSL outfits, scoring a total of 25 goals in 97 appearances. He spent last season on loan with AmaZulu FC. Introducing the Club’s latest signing, Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr. said, “We warmly welcome Etiosa into the Kaizer Chiefs family. We’re excited that he has joined our journey. His passion, work rate and dedication will surely add to the team this season and beyond. We look forward to creating unforgettable moments together in the Gold & Black colours of the Glamour Boys. Here’s to new beginnings and the spirit of Amakhosi.” Wrote the club’s website.

The Nigerian never played for Sundowns

The signing of Ighodaro by Chiefs has been the worst kept secret but also a long time coming. Amakhosi had been linked with the club for a least four transfer windows in the past. Even though the target man was brought to the country by Sundowns, he never got to play for them. Instead he was sent on numerous loans including spells at Chippa United, SuperSport United and AmaZulu.

During his collective loan spells, he has amassed 25 goals in 97 matches in South Africa’s top flight. Now Chiefs and their fans will be hoping Ighodaro can be the one to finally solve their goal scoring woes. He is expected to compete with fellow new signing Flavio Silva, Tashreeq Morris, Wandile Duba and Naledi Hlongwane for the striker role.

Happy with him Amakhosi?
