Kaizer Chiefs set to fly to Zambia

Kaizer Chiefs, along with all 16 domestic clubs, went on a long season break on 7 December to make way for the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Morocco, which will conclude on Sunday, January 18.

While the Premier Soccer League (PSL) is set to restart the following weekend, Amakhosi will take a slightly different path.

The Glamour Boys will take a CAF Confederation Cup trip to Zambia to face Zesco United.

THE MIXED START TO THE SEASON SO FAR

It was somewhat of an encouraging first half of the season for the Glamour Boys despite the shock exit of head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Kaizer Chiefs ended 2025 fourth in the PSL, with 24 points from 13 matches, suffering just one defeat.

Their league form has been resilient, though the team closed the year with consecutive 0–0 draws against Chippa United and TS Galaxy in early December.

Defensively, the team has been solid, with goalkeeper Brandon Petersen keeping multiple clean sheets and providing a foundation for the squad.

In the only domestic cup shot, Kaizer Chiefs were eliminated by Stellenbosch FC from the Carling Knockout in the Round of 16 on penalties.

DIM START FOR KAIZER CHIEFS IN THE CAF CONFEDERATION CUP

After winning the 2025 Nedbank Cup earlier in the year, the team laboured through the preliminary rounds of the CAF Confederation Cup to reach the group stages.

The group stage start was a letdown. Matchday one was a loss to a mid-table Egyptian side, El Masry in Suez, and then a 1-1 draw against Zamalek in Polokwane.

With the CAF trip to Zambia marking the official restart of their season, Kaizer Chiefs supporters will be hoping the team can maintain their league form while making a statement on the continental stage.

Success against Zesco United could set the tone for a strong second half of the season, both at home and in Africa.
