Kaizer Chiefs set to extend contract of 34-year-old star

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly looking to extend Gaston Sirino‘s stay at the club.

The 34-year-old Uruguayan joined Amakhosi last season as a free agent after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns. He had a decent campaign with Chiefs and it is believed the management are happy with his contributions to the club.

Soccer Laduma reported that the Soweto giants were willing to keep the hard working attacker until 2027.

“It’s the technical team that is believed to have recommended that Sirino should stay at the club beyond the expiry of his contract next year. They believe he has proven his worth at the club. So they are believed to have offered him a new one-year contract extension for his hard work and commitment to the team,” the source told Soccer Laduma.

A second source said that Sirino’s experience and leadership qualities were valued and the Kaizer Chiefs technical team feel he can lead the youngsters.

“The team needs leaders. So Sirino is one of the leaders in the squad who keeps the spirit going in the team, and they need him going forward while the youngsters learn from him as well.”

Sirino played 25 matches for Kaizer Chiefs across all competitions and scored four goals last season. Although he started the previous campaign strongly, injuries halted his progress and often had to start from the bench.

Do you think Sirino should play beyond 2026?
