Kaizer Chiefs sacrifice international flop to sign marquee striker

Posted on August 14, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs will allow Edson Castillo to leave Naturena so they can pursue a much-coveted international striker target.

Etiosa Ighodaro remains on the hierarchy’s wish list as he trains alone at Chloorkop.

Castillo arrived in 2023 but has failed to hold down a regular place in the side.

Nabi gives up on Kaizer Chiefs flop Castillo

Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi will sacrifice Edson Castillo to free up a foreign slot in the squad and give them more options in the market.

“It’s been said head coach Nasreddine Nabi could be open to his [Castillo’s] potential exit, allowing the club to be more flexible in the market as they look to lure new foreign recruits to bolster the squad for the upcoming season,” the report read on iDiskiTimes.

Xmas comes early for Chiefs?

How much would Ighodaro cost?

Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi is a big fan of Etiosa Ighodaro. The Sundowns man is in limbo after returning to Chloorkop from a loan spell at AmaZulu. The German website transfermarkt values him at €1.4 million, or R29 million. Obviously, Chiefs wouldn’t need to stump up that much to land their man.
