Kaizer Chiefs prioritise contract extension for star winger

Kaizer Chiefs have stepped up efforts to secure Pule Mmodi’s long-term future, even though the winger still has two years left on his current deal. The club’s proactive approach signals their confidence in Mmodi’s importance to their rebuild.

A source said that Amakhosi initiated talks with Mmodi’s camp to negotiate an early contract extension. The decision highlights the technical team’s satisfaction with the South African midfielder’s contributions over the past two seasons.

“It’s believed that Pule Mmodi has entered the final year of his contract at Chiefs and all the parties are willing to conclude a new deal. Chiefs are making progress on the new contract talks with the winger,” confirmed a source.

New deal could keep Mmodi until 2028

Although Mmodi originally signed a three-year deal upon joining Kaizer Chiefs from Golden Arrows ahead of the 2023/2024 campaign, the club appears eager to tie him down for longer. Negotiations reportedly include a proposed one-year extension with a further one-year option.

“For now, what I know is that it’s believed to be a straight one-year deal which has another one-year option. So the first extension would expire in June 2027 but with the option it could run until June 2028 and it’s believed that all the involved parties are happy with the talks,” the source shared.

Mmodi remains central to Chiefs’ plans

Despite a drop in minutes during the last campaign, Mmodi still featured in most league fixtures and remains highly regarded at Naturena. Chiefs’ intent to offer him a longer stay reflects their strategy to blend experienced local talent with their wave of new signings.

Should Kaizer Chiefs extend Mmodi’s contract?
