Kaizer Chiefs news: Monyane and Morris

Posted on September 7, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs fans are loving this. Two Amakhosi boys have joined the green and gold this week, carrying the Glamour Boys’ spirit into the Bafana Bafana camp.

First, it was the exciting Mduduzi Shabalala, and now Hugo Broos has handed Thabiso Monyane his shot after Nyiko Mobbie’s unfortunate injury.

“The injury happened as a result of a clash of heads in the first half, and he sustained a fracture of the eye socket in three places,” Bafana Bafana team doctor Tshepo Molobi said.

Monyane, who only joined Kaizer Chiefs at the start of the season, has settled quickly, and this call-up is his reward.

The 25-year-old will be part of the squad that takes on Nigeria in a crunch 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night in Bloemfontein.

For a player who has already impressed Amakhosi fans with his energy down the flank, this is a chance to show he belongs at the international level too.

South Africa’s win over Lesotho meant they remained top of Group C with 16 points, five ahead of second-placed Benin, who beat Zimbabwe 1-0. But Tuesday’s clash with the Super Eagles will be the true test, and with Monyane and Shabalala in the mix, Kaizer Chiefs suddenly have a strong hand in shaping the country’s World Cup dream.

TASHREEQ MORRIS LEAVING KAIZER CHIEFS?

Kaizer Chiefs striker Tashreeq Morris could be swapping Soweto for Durban City, linking up with Gavin Hunt to fire the Citizens to a strong start to the Betway Premiership.

The 31-year-old from Mitchells Plain, Cape Town, joined Amakhosi in January 2025 from the now-defunct SuperSport United, but he’s struggled to make his mark, failing to score in 10 appearances.

Nevertheless, his former SuperSport coach Hunt is reportedly calling the Cape Town Spurs academy graduate’s name.

The Citizens have leaned heavily on Joslin Kamatuka and Jean Lwamba so far, and Morris could bring that seasoned striker punch they’ve been missing.
