Kaizer Chiefs news: Mayo and Lepasa

Kaizer Chiefs have finally signed Khanyisa Mayo after two years of chasing.

The striker is on loan from Algerian side CR Belouizdad after just one season in North Africa. According to Mayo’s agent Basia Michaels, the 27-year-old forward snubbed offers from Europe to play for his father’s former club.

“We had offers abroad, but in the end, for personal reasons, we felt it was best for Khanyisa to come back and join Chiefs,” Michaels told SABC Sport.

“I have to thank the sporting director, Kaizer Motaung Jr, for his persistence. This was a very difficult transaction, but he never gave up – and now Khanyisa follows in his father’s footsteps.”

Kaizer Chiefs sign Mayo, lose out on Lepasa

Mayo could make his anticipated debut for Amakhosi next week when they play Sekhukhune United. The club has signed two other strikers, Flavio Silva and Etiosa Ighodaro.

In total, Chiefs have signed 10 players which half of them are free agents. In the five matches played, the Soweto giants have claimed 13 points from a possible 15 and are yet to concede a goal this season.

Kaizer Chiefs moving away from Lepasa

With Mayo joining Amakhosi, it look unlikely that the Soweto giants will look to sign ex-Orlando Pirates Zakhele Lepasa.

Durban City chairman Farouk Kadodia said his side were also moving on from the ex-Bucs hitman.

“No. For Lepasa the agent is still shopping around, so let him shop around,” Kadodia told the Siya crew.
