Kaizer Chiefs manager Motaung shares 2026 goals

Posted on February 7, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs crashed out of the Nedbank Cup last week, losing 2-1 to Stellenbosch, but football moves on.

Amakhosi turn their attention to Sunday’s crucial CAF Confederation Cup clash against Al Masry at Peter Mokaba Stadium, a fixture Motaung describes as a cup final in itself.

BOBBY MOTAUNG TARGETS END OF SEASON GLORY FOR KAIZER CHIEFS

“It’s a cup final for us on Sunday, we’re going there for a cup final, we need to qualify, we need to give hope again and be positive, we have been doing well so far, up to the loss on Wednesday,” Motaung said as per iDiski Times.

Despite two back-to-back 1-0 wins over ZESCO United, Kaizer Chiefs remain uncomfortable in Group D of the CAF Confederation Cup. The Soweto giants kicked off with a 2-1 loss to Al Masry before drawing with Zamalek at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Victory against Al Masry on Sunday will set up an away trip to Cairo against group leaders Zamalek, a challenge that Kaizer Chiefs must navigate to stay in contention.

“We have to regain our confidence, come back, bounce back and be positive, for us it’s very important, we want to go the final of this cup, we have this cup to challenge for, and we have the league to challenge for,” Motaung added.

BETWAY PREMIERSHIP AMBITION

Domestically, Kaizer Chiefs remain in the title hunt, trailing Orlando Pirates by just five points after 15 matches, with four consecutive 1-0 wins following the Africa Cup of Nations break showing their resilience.

“It’s interesting… we’re there to go for the final, go for the kill – in the league it’s also interesting, the margins are not much, and the focus is on it, on it to conquer,” Motaung continued.

“We’re positive about it, positive we’re going to challenge, especially now being out of the Nedbank, we have to challenge holistically and go in for the kill.”

The clash with Al Masry kicks off at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday at 15h00.
