Kaizer Chiefs linked to Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns stars

Posted on January 5, 2026

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly been linked with attackers from both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Let’s take a look at the context surrounding both reports.

KAIZER CHIEFS LINKED WITH ORLANDO PIRATES ATTACKER

As reported by The South African, Kaizer Chiefs are interested in Orlando Pirates attacker Tshegofatso Mabasa.

The 29-year-old forward is expected to leave the Buccaneers at the end of the season, but could still sign a pre-contract in the January transfer window.

This follows widespread reports suggesting Mabasa is likely to depart from Mayfair during this transfer window.

Tashreeq Morris is said to be facing a possible exit from Naturena, which could pave the way for Mabasa – or another attacker to be signed by Amakhosi.

AMAKHOSI TO REVISIT INTEREST IN SUNDOWNS FORWARD?

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Thapelo Maseko is reportedly on the brink of leaving the Brazilians, albeit, on a loan move, according to Goal.

The talented winger is in search of regular playing time, something that has been hard to come by during his recent spell at Masandawana.

Maseko has featured for just 127 minutes across seven appearances in all competitions this season to date.

He has gone from being one of the most promising stars in the country to struggling for game time at club level.

Lost Bafana Bafana spot

He has also lost his place in the national team after he was dropped by Hugo Broos for Bafana Bafana’s recently concluded AFCON 2025 campaign.

The 22-year-old will need to find a new club – and soon – if he is to revive his Bafana Bafana career.

With Maseko now in the market for a new club, Kaizer Chiefs could have a golden opportunity to sign the talented Mamelodi Sundowns attacker.

As mentioned, Morris is likely to be released on loan, opening up space in Kaizer Chiefs’ attacking ranks.

To make matters more interesting, Amakhosi scouts attempted to lure Maseko to Naturena during the most recent transfer window. However, the move failed to materialise.
