Kaizer Chiefs let another top talent slip through their fingers

Posted on October 16, 2025

Mlungisi Ngubane has criticised Kaizer Chiefs’ inability to nurture and retain top South African football talent.

Khulumani Ndamane left for TS Galaxy.

The 21-year-old is now a regular for Bafana Bafana and started the recent 3-0 win over Rwanda.

Kaizer Chiefs run the risk of losing top young striker

Mlungisi Ngubane blasts Kaizer Chiefs

South African soccer legend Mlungisi Ngubane believes Kaizer Chiefs made a huge mistake by allowing Khulumani Ndamane to leave for TS Galaxy in July 2024. The 21-year-old central defender has become a key figure for Bafana Bafana under Hugo Broos, starting their recent 3-0 win over Rwanda. Ngubane rates him highly.

“This boy from TS Galaxy, Ndamane, came into the national team and immediately fit in as if he had been there from the start,” Ngubane told KickOff.

“He’s a talented player. The likes of Grant Kekana will miss out on the trip to America because of Ndamane. Remember, we still have (Mbekezeli) Mbokazi as well.

Kaizer Chiefs made a significant mistake by letting him go. They must be regretting their decision. Whoever was responsible for scouting players for Chiefs should be brought back. I’m not sure who is currently overseeing development at the club; it seems they prioritise good English speakers over actual talent.”

Bafana boasts serious depth in defence

Nkosinathi Sibisi and Mbekezeli Mbokazi are the first-choice pairing for now, on paper at least. However, 20-year-old Pirates star Mbkoazi was suspended for the Rwanda clash. TS Galaxy man Ndamane deputised admirably. With so many talented young prospects in Broos’ back four, it’s difficult not to get excited about this group and its potential to cause a stir at the World Cup.
