Kaizer Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi has slammed Amakhosi midfielder George Matlou for mimicking the antics of St Eloi Lupopo defender Dieumerci Mukoko.
This comes after Orlando Pirates were eliminated from the CAF Champions League by Lupopo in October. In the dramatic second leg at Orlando, Mukoko was involved in an altercation which saw two players from both teams sent off.
The 27-year-old defender then went on to insult and provoke fans after escaping a red card. His antics were used by some Chiefs supporters who celebrated Bucs’ exit from the competition.
Last month, Matlou mimicked Mukoko’s antics as Kaizer Chiefs reached the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Baloyi, who played for Amakhosi between 1993 and 2004, was not impressed with the midfielder making fun of Pirates. He said that was not good for the midfielder to make headlines on social media.
“Before even the game [Chippa United vs Kaizer Chiefs], if you look at the social streets, especially Pirates fans are giving him a hard time,” Baloyi said on SoccerBeat.
Matlou told to work hard by Chiefs legend
“They have given him a new nickname as well. They call him a video boy now. He will have to work hard to clean his image on the field and he brought it to himself and unfortunately, he will be the one to work hard and to get back to focusing on the field.”
Matlou made just four appearances this season for Chiefs this season and got a rare start against Chippa United midweek.
