Kaizer Chiefs keep signing Pirates and Sundowns ‘rejects’

Kaizer Chiefs have signed 10 players this season but half of them were free agents.

Having failed to finish in the top 8 last season, Amakhosi have strenghtened their squad for the 2025/26 campaign looking to compete for top honours. None of the 10 new players have been hailed as big signings but the team has managed to win their opening three Betway Premiership matches.

Their biggest match test awaits them on Wednesday against reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns. A win or a draw could put Amakhosi top of the log depanding on other results.

Which players did Kaizer Chiefs sign for free?

Amakhosi signed ex-Orlando Pirates duo of Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane for free in July. Earlier this month, Luke Baartman and Asanele Velebayi were announced as new Chiefs players after the PSL DRC declared them free agents.

On Monday, Kaizer Chiefs officially signed midfielder Lebohang Maboe from Mamelodi Sundowns

“We know Lebo is a quality player who has gained valuable experience in continental competitions over the past few years. His expertise will be crucial for us in both the domestic league and the CAF Confederation Cup. We’re pleased to welcome him back to Amakhosi. He was here and knows the culture and what our supporters expect from our players,” said Amakhosi Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr.

The likes of Monyane and Maboe have struggled to break into the Pirates and Sundowns teams respectively in the past seasons. If Kaizer Chiefs wants to compete, they should be spending money on top players to challege these teams.

last season, the Glamour Boys signed Bongani Sam from Pirates and also Gaston Sirino, after getting axed by Downs.

Can Chiefs new signings deliver this season?
