Kaizer Chiefs keen on Guinea ‘keeper but foreign quota won’t allow

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly shown interest in Asante Kotoko and Guinea goalkeeper Mohamed Camara.

As things stand, Amakhosi have four goalkeepers – three of which are South Africans – but can they afford to have another one?

Brandon Petersen is currently their No.1 while Fiacre Ntwari (Rwanda) is now the club’s second choice goalkeeper.

Bruce Bvuma and Bontle Molefe are third and fourth choices respectively in the pecking order at Chiefs.

Now, as reported by The South African on Friday, Camara revealed that Chiefs did approach him after their Toyota Cup game in Durban.

However, he referred them to Asante Kotoko whom he is still contracted to for one more season.

It’s unclear, at this stage, if Chiefs have approached the Ghanaian giants for the services of the lanky goalkeeper.

KAIZER CHIEFS TO FACE FOREIGN QUOTA CONUNDRUM IF THEY SIGN CAMARA

Now, if Chiefs are really keen on bringing in Camara for the current season and beyond, they will have to make space for him.

And that’s because they have already exhausted their foreign quota, at least for now, with five foreign internationals on their books.

The five foreign internationals are Ntwari, Inacio Miguel (Angola), Flavio Silva (Guinea-Bissau), Etiosa Ighodaro (Nigeria), and Glody Lilepo (DR Congo).

Should Chiefs sign Camara, it would be clear that they feel the need to bolster their goalkeeping department.

And with that said, they would have completely lost faith in Ntwari who conceded 11 goals in just seven games since his arrival and is no longer playing.

That alone would make Ntwari an obvious choice to be offloaded in order for Camara to come in and take over from him.

In so doing, Chiefs would have dealt decisively with their foreign quota conundrum for the current season.
