Kaizer Chiefs’ inevitable collapse will be sweet and unsurprising

Kaizer Chiefs have made a blistering start to the campaign. However, it’s only a matter of time before the house of cards comes tumbling down.

Next up is a clash with bogey side and perennial champions Sundowns.

Chiefs will struggle to keep the honeymoon phase going

So far, 2025-2026 has been like a dream for Kaizer Chiefs. The club has brought in a host of shiny new names, and they’ve won all three league matches. The first real test, however, comes in the shape of a clash with champions Sundowns. A bad result there could change the whole complexion of things. Also, the return to the dugout of Nasreddine Nabi could actually be a hindrance rather than a help.

The tendency to get excited

Fans of almost all prominent football clubs on the planet are prone to getting carried away after a few good results. On the other side of that coin, they’re too quick to write obituaries after a bad result or two. Let’s be real; a finish inside the top eight this season would represent tangible progress for Kaizer Chiefs, so nine points from nine is a glorious start.

What’s next for Nabi’s men?

Chiefs host Sundowns on Wednesday, 27 August at FNB Stadium with kickoff at 19:30. The Glamour Boys have started the campaign perfectly with three wins from three league outings against Stellenbosch, Polokwane and Richards Bay, teeing them up nicely for a clash with Sundowns. Here’s how their XI could look with Etiosa Ighodaro potentially leading the line:
