Kaizer Chiefs forgotten midfielder extends his stay at Naturena

Posted on September 9, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs have extended midfielder George Matlou’s contract by another year.

The 27-year-old only featured once in the league last season and was rumoured to be among the players set to leave the club. Between May and July, Amakhosi released close to 10 players; however, Matlou was not one of them.

The player’s representatives Mscsports Talent, wrote on X (Twitter) that the Kaizer Chiefs star had extended his stay.

“George Matlou commits to the journey! ✍️ The midfielder extends his stay with the Amakhosi,” the agency announced on X.

Matlou joined Amakhosi from Swallows back in 2022 but only made just 41 appearances for the Soweto giants in three years.

Kaizer Chiefs sign another star

Last week, Amakhosi welcomed Khanyiso Mayo on loan from CR Belouizdad in Algeria.

“It’s no secret that we wanted to bring Khanyisa to Naturena before his move to Algeria,” said Chiefs’ Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr.

“He has a proven track record in the league, and we believe he will add significant value to the squad this season when we play in the league, as well as on the continent. He joins an select group of athletes who’ve made their families proud by following in their footsteps. We are truly happy to have him here and wish him all the best.”

Kaizer Chiefs are in action next week against Sekhukhune United.

Will Matlou play this season?
