Kaizer Chiefs’ first match confirmed

Posted on January 7, 2026

The mighty Kaizer Chiefs will restart the 2025/26 season against Golden Arrows on Tuesday, 20 January at the FNB Stadium at 19:30.

While most clubs will go all-in on local football, Amakhosi’s restart will include African business.

The Arrows visit will be followed by some CAF Confederation Cup action. Kaizer Chiefs will jet off to Zambia to battle Zesco United on Sunday, 25 January in Ndola.

MIXED START IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE SEASON

Before the AFCON break on 7 December, Kaizer Chiefs enjoyed somewhat of a decent run in the Betway Premiership.

Despite coach Nasreddine Nabi’s shock exit in October, the Glamour Boys closed off the first round in fourth place with 24 points.

Co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef lost just a single game in 13, thanks to an opening five-match unbeaten streak in August-September.

However, Kaizer Chiefs closed the year with back-to-back 0–0 draws against Chippa United and TS Galaxy in early December.

Defensively, the team was reliable. Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen kept multiple clean sheets. In domestic cup action, Kaizer Chiefs were eliminated by Stellenbosch FC in the Carling Knockout Round of 16, losing on penalties.

KAIZER CHIEFS DISSAPOINT IN THE CAF CONFEDERATION CUP

After winning the 2025 Nedbank Cup, Kaizer Chiefs navigated the preliminary CAF Confederation Cup rounds to reach the group stage.

However, the start in Africa was underwhelming. A loss to Egyptian side El Masry in Suez was followed by a 1–1 draw against Zamalek in Polokwane.

With the upcoming trip to Zambia against Zesco United marking the official continental restart, Kaizer Chiefs supporters will hope the team can carry their league momentum while making a statement on the African stage.

A strong result could set the tone for an impressive second half of the season, both domestically and in Africa.
