Kaizer Chiefs finally make big announcement
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

After nearly a month of uncertainty, Kaizer Chiefs have announced Nasreddine Nabi has left the club.

The club known as Amakhosi released a statement that confirmed an amicable separation with the Tunisian coach.

Nabi’s last match for Kaizer Chiefs was on 16 September, a disastrous 3-1 loss to Sekhukhune United in the Betway Premiership at the FNB Stadium.

OFFICIAL: NASREDDINE NABI LEAVES KAIZER CHIEFS

While reports claim the relationship broke over Nabi’s alleged invalid coaching license, Amakhosi’s statement does not confirm or deny the reports.

Kaizer Chiefs have said the call was made after “constructive engagements,” both parties agreed to part ways “on an amicable basis.”

In the note, Amakhosi said the decision was taken in a spirit of professionalism and gratitude. “The Club acknowledges and thanks Coach Nabi for his contribution during his tenure and extends best wishes for his continued success.”

Nabi also took a moment to appreciate his time in gold and black, saying he was grateful to the “leadership, staff, players and supporters for their commitment and support” during his stay.

While Nabi’s Kaizer Chiefs spell was brief, it will be remembered for its ambition and intent to rebuild.

Meanwhile, the club has appointed Nabi’s assistants Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze to lead Amakhosi until the end of the season.

NASREDDINE NABI’S RECORD AT AMAKHOSI

When Nabi arrived from Morocco’s AS FAR in July 2024, there was a real sense that Kaizer Chiefs had finally found their man.

His spell began with a pre-season camp in Turkey, followed by his first outing on Mzansi soil, the Toyota Cup clash against his former Tanzanian side. It didn’t go well. Kaizer Chiefs were hammered 4–0.

Over the course of the 2024/25 campaign, he took charge of 35 matches across the Betway Premiership, Carling Knockout, and Nedbank Cup. His record: 12 wins, nine draws, and 14 defeats.

Finishing ninth in the Betway Premiership was hard to swallow for Amakhosi fans, but lifting the Nedbank Cup changed everything. It ended a 10-year trophy drought and gave Nabi the green light to start the new season with renewed hope.

But football is erratic. After just three defeats and a draw in the new season, the Tunisian’s time at Naturena was over.

Nabi missed two matches last season due to illness and another nine games this term while on compassionate leave and later serving a suspension. In his absence, his assistants Youssef and Kaze turned heads: winning seven, drawing two, and losing just two.

Coming up next is a trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo to battle AS Simba in the CAF Confederation Cup.
