Kaizer Chiefs have intensified their search for an additional striker, with an unnamed Nigerian frontman now firmly on their radar ahead of the 2025/2026 campaign.
Sources close to Naturena reveal that Chiefs are actively exploring several attacking options as they look to inject more competition and depth into their front line. The new striker, although not yet identified publicly, reportedly offers a profile that fits well with the team’s current tactical setup – and would challenge newly signed forward Flavio Silva.
“The club is weighing up options, including another Nigerian striker whose attributes align with what the technical team is looking for,” confirmed a source.
Chiefs still tracking Ighodaro
Amakhosi have also reignited their interest in Nigerian forward Etiosa Ighodaro, who remains contracted to Mamelodi Sundowns. Chiefs previously made enquiries about the 24-year-old, who scored six goals in 27 appearances during a loan spell at AmaZulu last season.
However, the move has stalled due to Ighodaro’s pending permanent residence permit (PRP), which prevents him from being registered as a local player. Until the PRP is approved, he continues to count as a foreigner – a challenge for a club that has just one remaining slot in its foreign-player quota.
“Chiefs are treading carefully with foreign signings as they await clarity on the available registration slots,” another source added.
With stints at SuperSport United and Chippa United, Ighodaro brings valuable top-flight experience. Should a space become available, he remains a logical option to bolster the squad.
Six new signings already locked in
Despite the uncertainty around Ighodaro and other international targets, Kaizer Chiefs have already made a flurry of domestic signings to reinforce key areas:
Nkanyiso Shinga – Left-back
Thabiso Monyane – Right-back
Paseka Mako – Left-back
Ethan Chislett – Attacking midfielder
Siphesihle Ndlovu – Central midfielder
Flavio Silva – Striker
With these arrivals, the club is clearly laying the groundwork for a stronger and more balanced squad. Though the search for a clinical finisher continues to top the agenda.
